A lot is happening in my creative spheres that I want to share with you all.

I’m a writer. But I don’t just write blogs, and I won’t hide the short stories and the novels I’m coming up with. My story on Jukepopserials, ‘Unbreakable,’ has its readers. I’ve taken quite a shine to writing it. As the characters continue to evolve, they find new ways to reveal their stories to me. All I do is translate for my characters in a way that honors them and reflects their true nature.

When I started this adventure on Jukepop, I had no idea that the story was going to become what it is. I’ve already come up with 26 installments or chapters, and it seems that each of my characters has a long journey ahead of them. Who knows how each trek will progress, and what it will mean for the post apocalyptic world that I’ve created?

I had the notion once upon a time that there was little to be gained from revealing what is truly at stake when I write this serial. I enjoy writing . Committing my visions to text has been nothing short of amazing. I respect writers who bring their A game all the time, and putting on a game face when I sit to type out the latest installment can be a real challenge. Real life can feel a lot hairier than a zombie apocalypse and hell fire.

To say that I do it for the money, therefore, would seem trivial. But it’s not. You see, the top thirty stories on website receive accolades and cash prizes. While I always bring my best to the table, there is a lot more riding on getting votes on that site then I was willing to admit until now. I wasn’t even sure this story would make it past 15 chapters. But the narrative has taken off. ‘Unbreakable’ remains among the top 45 out of nearly 200 serials on the site.

I know I can do better.

So I will ask everyone I may or may not know, writer, reader, or candlestick maker, to do something.

Go read Unbreakable, create an account on Jukepop and lend me your votes.  When you’re finished doing that, spread the word! Tell friends, family, co workers, anyone with an internet connection on any device who might be interested in horror/paranormal fiction. I’ve been sneaking into the top thirty for a while. It’s time I stopped sneaking and started barreling ahead.

In other news, I’ve decided to lend my voice to another exciting project. A friend of mine named Shaun Adams offered me the chance to record one of his creepiest horror tales in my own dulcet tones. I’ve done small things like this before, and I really like Shaun’s ideas. Take a listen to ““Soil Dweller,” written by Shaun Adams, Recorded by Angel D. Callido.” Let Shaun know what you think of his work. Let me know what you think of mine 😉 Want more of Shaun’s stories? Maybe you should find out when Evil is Free on Amazon.com.

A New Day, A New Chapter

Ladies and Gentlemen, Friday is upon us!

No more school, no more books, no more teachers, dirty looks!

And here is the chance for you lucky escapees to read a new chapter of my Serial, Unbreakable. Chapter 14 has  been written, edited and posted for your reading pleasure.

And here is the part where you ask, “but Mr. Callido (please, call me Angel), what happened to posting on Thursdays?” The answer really won’t surprise you. I was one day late for posting because my best friend was coming into the city, and what should I discover but that more people seem to have more time to read my serial and cast their votes on a Friday! What a goose I’ve been! So for now,  I will be posting new chapters of Unbreakable on Fridays.

In all fairness, folks, it’s a psychological thing for me as well. It feels like I’ve got one more day per week to come up with something dynamite for my readers. That may not technically be the case, but like so many of us, I too succumb to the temptation to take it easier on a Friday. I’m lucky if I even sign a check that day, let alone write an email. So come, enjoy the fruits of my labor, thank my best friend for helping me to edit this chapter as she does so many others, and enjoy the read! Kenshiro’s waiting for you, and we all know how crazy HE gets, right?’

Don’t forget to vote on my chapters. You, my loyal readers, know this. Bring others along for the ride, and don’t forget to tell them to sign up and vote! Logan needs to hone his powers, doesn’t he? He can’t if there’s no reason. Think of the children! Even if they are somehow … different.

Oh Yeah? Well read this!

That’s right, ladies and germs. The ninth chapter of my serial, ‘Unbreakable’ is up and ready for your reading pleasure at Jukepopserials.com. As always, remember to cast your vote for me if this meets with your approval. I’ve worked hard to eliminate the formatting issue that I encountered just after I posted chapter eight last week.  It takes quite a bit to write and edit these chapters. Fun as it is to come up with a great end product, I don’t enjoy editing as much as I enjoy writing, but it matters a great deal to me. Just ask anyone who’s ever seen me review the writing of others on writing.com sometime. 😉

Read, enjoy, vote, and tell your friends to read and vote on Unbreakable if they like paranormal horror. Tell your friends to tell their friends too! The more the merrier! I think there may be something for everyone in this story (unless you’re looking for erotica. That will come with my first book 😛 )

On an even happier note, I’ve just hit 50 votes! I’m stoked. Now it’s time to push that number up even higher. Got comments? Bring ’em!

Got milk? Meh. I’ll take a Guiness instead.

Pushing 40

No, that is not the new title of an autobiography!

That is the result of the votes I’ve gotten so far for all the chapters of my serial, ‘Unbreakable’ at Jukepopserials.com. I’m sitting at 39. I want to hit forty and go WAY beyond that. Take a few minutes and read Chapter 8 and vote on it if you haven’t done so already. If you’ve got longer and haven’t done so yet, read and vote for all eight chapters. You can’t lose if you love horror and paranormal writing!

Lucky Number Seven .. Just in Time for Halloween.

Hurricane Sandy obviously gave me a lot of fodder for writing. Writing formed the crux of how I got through this with the sanity I still possess. For those who sent me well wishes and good energy, thanks. You know who you all are.

I’ve got a new chapter to the ‘Unbreakable’ serial on Jukepopserials.com.  My chapters have no titles, alas. I’m just bad at those.

Halloween is here and I have no plans for it, really. I just got off a seven hour shift at my local B & N. I’m tired, but I’ve got a writing contest to enter and a book to continue editing.  I wish you all a ghoulish Halloween. If you want scary, come check out ‘Unbreakable.’

On a side note that is far more boring and technical, I have to wonder how many users know to scroll down after each chapter to give it a vote. Automatic voting apparently doesn’t work, or I don’t understand what the heck it means. For those who want to check out the serial for the first time, remember to create an account to cast your vote for any chapter you read and like. You’ll have to scroll down a little further once you’ve read said chapter in order to find the option to vote. The option can be found in a link with grey letters. I know some were having trouble getting their votes registered, and a recent reader informed me that directions for voting are not incredibly obvious. Since I KNOW my writing kicks ass, I KNOW I’ll be getting more votes, right? 😉

At any rate, check it out, cast a vote, or even send a comment to twitter or Facebook. There are buttons somewhere on the page that allow you to contact me directly that way. If you have comments, questions, unwanted pregnancies … wait, scratch that last one, then drop me a line. I’ll respond as soon as I can.  Think the story needs to take on a new direction? Try and convince me how true that is. The only promise I will make is to take your idea under consideration, but you NEVER know 😉

Happy Halloween, all. Check out ‘Unbreakable.’ I dare you.

Heaven help us all – Chapter 6 is here!

As I promised my loyal and future readers, chapter 6 of “Unbreakable” is here! I’ve tried to closely edit this one, as I do all of my work. With the postings being the final thing that the whole world can read, I want to put my best foot forward each time.

Once again, be prepared ..

If you haven’t already, sign up and cast your votes!

I’ll be back next week with more. Adios for now! And thanks for your support!

A New Cover!

Whoot! As promised, I have attained a cover for my story, “Unbreakable.” This was mostly thanks to my friend, E., who directed me to  a fabulous, professional cover artist named Glendon Haddix. I’ll let his work speak for itself. Come take a peek at my “sure-to-get-lots-of-attention” new cover! And while you’re at it, read the story and cast your votes. You won’t regret it if you’re a fan of paranormal horror!

Time for this Voodoo Drummer to lay out some serious licks ..
